Tutorial 5
Hello :D I'm back with a new tutorial. I will be teaching you how to make a denim pouch out of denim jeans. This denim pouch can hold almost anything you want, depending on the size of your jeans. I am going to use a wide jeans in this tutorial. I used it to carry my laptop battery to school :DQuestion for thought: How do you do this denim pouch out of different materials and based on the style you like?
Here is how the final product looks like.
Secondly, measure how long you want the length of your bag to be, including the folded part and the length to be sewed(mine is around half ). Then cut them.
Next, turn the jeans inside out and straighten it nicely on a table.
Use a sewing machine to sew or you can sew it manually(which of course is tedious). Sow one line across the jeans making sure it is high enough so that it will not open at the bottom.
Open up the bottom like a triangle, fold nicely and sew across. Do it for both sides. If it is too complicated, ask your parents to help you. Then, sew the corner diagonally after you sew the horizontal line without opening. Do it for both side.
Flip it inside out again and tahdah , you got yourself the basic denim pouch. The base should look something like this.
From the next step onwards, it is up to your creativity to design your bag your way. But I am still showing you an example anyway.
Fold the opening of the jeans downwards to estimate the smallest size of the pouch you want. Grab the extra buttons available around your house, or if you find it difficult to sew a button, like me, buy the jeans button(you just have to measure the exact position of the button you want it to be placed and pierce through it, hammering in the button(get an adult to help you, best if you can get your mum to help). If not, sew the button on.
Next, grab a string you want for the pattern to secure your bag. You can use anything you like(be it ribbons, ropes, belt, strings, zips).
Sew it to the top of the opening so you can wrap around the bag and secure it. If you think it is plain, grab your fabric marker, iron on pictures, studs, jewellery and start designing your bag. tahdah and there you have a pouch :D. Simple enough? Try it and do give us your feedback and comments. <3
At the back of the bag, you can either get a pretty safety pin or you can sew a piece of cloth similar to the direction of the pin to prevent the strap from coming off. (due to time constrain I used a safety pin :)
If you have any favourite decorations you like(eg. studs, iron on tags, jewllery, prints etc, you can stick them on and create your very own DIY bag :D let your creative juice flow~~~
your comments or discussions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you <3
